Dr. Wei Yuan counsels clients on intellectual property (IP) issues with an emphasis on patent litigation matters.
He litigates patent infringement cases in Section 337 investigations before the International Trade Commission (ITC) and U.S. district courts; represents parties on patent invalidity issues in inter partes review and post-grant review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board; and conducts pre-filing patent infringement investigations.
Wei has years of experience counseling foreign companies on IP matters and handling their IP disputes associated with their business activities in the United States. He was part of a Perkins Coie trial team that secured a favorable ruling in a Section 337 investigation for patent infringement before the ITC for firm client Shenzhen Carku Technology Co., Ltd.
In addition, Wei provides legal opinions on freedom-to-operate, non-infringement, invalidity, and designing around issues in contentious patent matters. He has experience in managing patent portfolios and prosecuting patent applications in the United States and foreign jurisdictions.
Prior to earning his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, Wei worked as a patent examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and later as a patent agent for an international law firm. He holds a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from The City University of New York and a Bachelor of Science in computer science from Nanjing University of Science and Technology in China.
