Janice Ta

Janice works with clients globally from startups to universities to Fortune 500 companies in cases involving a broad range of technologies.

Janice L. Ta is an intellectual property (IP) lawyer who helps companies enforce, license, and litigate rights related to patents, trade secrets, trademarks, and copyrights. Janice earned degrees in Symbolic Systems (B.S.) and Art History (B.A.) from Stanford University, where she specialized in human-computer interaction and artificial intelligence. Her clients rely on her advocacy and writing to tell their litigation stories and to condense complex technologies in a way that is understandable to a jury.

Before earning her law degree from Yale Law School, Janice was a user interface designer and product manager at a social networking company, shepherding the development of a variety of products and services from conception to launch. Her work as a lawyer is informed by her knowledge of the product development cycle, her ability to work closely with engineers and experts, and her understanding of the business needs of growing technology companies. Janice has handled cases in such technologies as semiconductors, Wi-Fi, streaming, search algorithms, networking, light-emitting diodes, and computer hardware and software.

Janice served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Timothy B. Dyk of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. In 2022, Janice was awarded the Top Women in IP "Ginger Rogers Award" by Texas Lawyer. She has also been recognized by Super Lawyers (2022) and as a Texas "Rising Star" in IP litigation by Super Lawyers (2018 and 2019). As a first-generation college graduate and a polio-survivor, Janice is a leader and advocate for accessibility and inclusivity of attorneys with disabilities in the legal field.
