Gerard F. Joyce Jr.
Gerry advises high-wealth individuals both in the United States and internationally on a wide range of wealth planning, risk management, and governance issues.
These matters include sophisticated U.S. estate planning techniques as well as forming and framing governance practices for family offices and trust administration for families with extraordinary wealth. Gerry Joyce's broad-based experience includes creating and evaluating structures for cross-border wealth transfers for families based outside the United States with intentions to maintain presence in multiple jurisdictions.
Informed by decades of experience as chief fiduciary officer for international bank and trust companies, Gerry advises individuals and institutions on trust and estates issues. He also has experience helping clients with U.S.-centric philanthropic giving and assisting families as they develop their next generation of family members and leaders by preparing them for roles in stewarding their family's wealth and the family enterprise.
Gerry also has overseen the administration of complex estates, whether dealing with contentious matters or sophisticated tax issues or managing or disposing of unique assets such as fine art and trophy properties.
Gerry has board-level experience with several state and federally chartered trust companies, including acting as chair. He draws on this experience to create a tailored and practical risk management framework for clients' fiduciary activities, whether as individuals or through a private trust company. His focus has a particular emphasis on the fiduciary aspects of risk management, including handling conflicts of interest and concentrated stock positions as well as the impact of the Corporate Transparency Act upon trusts and trustees.
Gerry is a member of the board of directors and secretary of the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation in New York City.
He also is a frequent speaker and lecturer on trust and estate issues, including cross-border planning, fiduciary investment, and planning for family enterprises.
