Gautam Thatte
Dr. Gautam Thatte is experienced in drafting and prosecuting U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) patent applications.
His practice covers various technologies, including analog and digital electronics, wireless communications, computer software and digital signal processing. Gautam's patent experience extends to signal processing for interference cancellation, cellular communication standards (3GPP, 3GPP2, 802.11, and 4G), optical systems, multiple access and MIMO communication methods, machine learning and artificial intelligence, error correcting codes, and digital and analog communication systems.
Prior to joining Perkins Coie, Gautam worked as a patent engineer and a systems engineer at a wireless communications and networking solutions company. As a patent engineer, he drafted patent applications, identified patentable technologies and conducted patentability searches, and managed outside counsel in continuing prosecution of applications he prepared.
As a systems engineer, Gautam designed and simulated waveforms in C++ and Matlab for military, over-the-horizon (OTH), free-space optical (FSO) and integrated GPS positioning systems, and maintained and developed a communications software library in C++.
Gautam earned his Ph.D. and Master of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California, focusing his research on estimation and detection theory in networks. He is the co-author of six research articles published in scientific journals in the fields of signal processing, embedded systems and networking, and has given numerous presentations on communications in networked systems.
