

James Miller
James focuses on patent and intellectual property (IP) litigation for technology companies.
James Miller has extensive experience representing clients in proceedings before the International Trade Commission, litigation before U.S. district courts, and inter partes review proceedings before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board. James also works with clients on complex and international arbitrations involving breach of contract, commercially reasonable efforts, trade secrets, and IP disputes. His clients span numerous technological fields, including gaming, software, networking technologies, mechanical and electrical devices, pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals, and biotechnology.
James advises parties in federal courts throughout the United States including in complex multipatent disputes as well as Abbreviated New Drug Application litigation. He handles issues at every stage of litigation through trial, including development of pre-litigation strategies, noninfringement, invalidity, summary judgment, damages, expert preparation, depositions, and trial preparation. On a pro bono basis, James represents members of Washington state communities against local government retaliation, asylum seekers, and persons appealing death penalty verdicts.
Prior to earning a J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law, with honors, James was an intern at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), where he examined patents in the chemistry art unit relating to hydraulic fracturing and food processing and packaging. During law school, James assisted startup technology clients through the University of Washington Entrepreneurial Law Clinic on matters of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
