Former physicist and seasoned patent attorney Bing helps leading technology companies protect their most valuable ideas and compete in the global markets.

A physicist by training, Bing Ai brings more than 25 years of experience in patent procurement, patent strategies, and patent portfolio management in a wide range of technologies, including semiconductors, electronics, medical devices, and 3G, LTE/4G, and 5G wireless standard essential patents. He performs patent due diligence for patent licenses, patent portfolio sales, corporate financing, investments, and mergers and acquisitions. Bing has extensive experience in patent reexamination, reissue, and other post-issuance proceedings. Notably, Bing handled highly valuable patent portfolios in key industries that led to industrywide patent licenses or were involved in significant patent litigation.   

Bing represents clients in patent disputes and conducts freedom to operate analyses, patent validity analyses, and infringement analyses. Bing assists clients in patent litigation at district courts and Section 337 investigations before the International Trade Commission and handles patent administrative trials before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including inter partes reviews and post-grant reviews.  

With an emphasis on technology companies, Bing works with companies ranging from multinational corporations to midsized companies and startups; he also represents universities and research institutes. 

Bing is a contributing author to Anatomy of a Patent Case (Third Edition) published by the American College of Trial Lawyers. Bing is a frequent speaker at seminars and lectures on U.S. and international patent issues. 

Prior to attending law school, Bing conducted research and development work in laser physics, nonlinear optics, and atomic spectroscopy. He has published research articles in scientific journals such as Nature, Optics Letters, Applied Physics Letters, and Journal of the Optical Society of America.
