Joe Cutler presented "Identifying and Resolving Legal Issues for Layer 1 Protocols" during the Consensus 2022 Roundtable Sessions in the Austin office. The presentation addressed identifying the unique legal issues that Layer 1 protocols must resolve in order to clear the way for greater adoption of mainstream blockchain and Web3 technologies. These include rationalizing self-sovereign data and identity protocols with privacy and data protection regulations, identifying the appropriate actors in the ecosystem who should be regulated, compliance with international sanctions requirements, and strategies for regulatory and legislative engagement that will be critical in the next few years.
