Perkins Coie’s John Penn Receives the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award
DALLAS (October 8, 2021)—Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Dallas-based partner John Penn has received the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI)'s 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award. ABI's highest award recognizes Penn's sustained and deep commitment to the leadership and governance of the organization in several leadership roles over many years.
A former ABI president and chairman and an ABI member since 1988, Penn is the firmwide chair of Perkins Coie's Bankruptcy & Restructuring practice and is also a fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy. Licensed by the Supreme Court of Texas in 1982 and the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York in 2010, he is a highly experienced bankruptcy and insolvency attorney.
In addition to serving as ABI president during 2005–06, when the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 became effective, Penn later served as its chairman and continues his service to the organization as a co-chair of the ABI Task Force on Veterans and Servicemembers Affairs. He also is a former chairman and past president of the American Board of Certification, the only organization providing board certification of attorneys in business bankruptcy, consumer bankruptcy, and creditors' rights law throughout the United States.
