In-House Corner: How We’re (Semi) Embracing AI
This feature of our blog is where our in-house readers share tips, anecdotes and thoughts about things that come up in their daily practice. This particular batch of thoughts is about how in-house practitioners are embracing generative AI so far:
- "I think it's a great starting point for drafting memos and documents. It often generates great first drafts of job descriptions, basic legal memos, and other documents that leverage non-confidential and public information. It's not a replacement. It requires extensive review."
- "I know our outside counsel uses a product and they report to us about the parameters in which they use it. That's about as far as I've gotten with it."
- "AI will likely push me into retirement. Just one too many new things for me to worry about. Climate reporting could have been the tipping point too."
- "Haven't had a chance to use AI yet."
- "It's like having a decent first year generating all your first drafts. To get full value, you need an enterprise license so you can feed it more sensitive information but that feels like it's premature for me right now because I don't understand the security in the product well enough."
- "I haven't tried it for things like SEC filings yet but I think Workiva and similar tools should definitely offer a capability for AI to do a baseline first draft update of 10-Ks and 10-Qs for in-house teams to then leverage and adapt. It won't replace manual work but it can reduce it! Same for standard 8-K, etc."
- "I'm not really using it. Should be. But I'm not."
- "Since the board is studying AI and how it will impact our company's strategy, I've started to play around with it so that I become more familiar with it. But I really haven't used it for work product yet."
